As required under the Clean Water Act, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) has completed the draft annual update to the North Central Texas Water Quality Management Plan (WQMP). The 2026 update, which is in the format of an interactive mapping tool, is now available for public comment through June 22, 2026, and can be found by clicking here. It is also posted under the green banner labeled "Current Water Quality Management Plan" on NCTCOG’s Water Resources page:

You may submit written comments referencing the 2026 Update to the North Central Texas WQMP in several ways:

- Mailing to NCTCOG, Environment & Development, P.O. Box 5888, Arlington, TX 76005-5888;
- Completing the comment form embedded in the plan update.
The Draft 2026 deliverable was prepared by NCTCOG under the guidance of the Water Resources Council, which consists of representatives from the North Central Texas region’s joint treatment works and their customers, representatives from non-profit organizations, and other water quality experts.
Next Steps: At its next meeting on July 8, 2026, the Water Resources Council will discuss the Draft 2026 WQMP and public comments received, and then consider recommending it for adoption by NCTCOG's Executive Board. NCTCOG's Executive Board is scheduled to review the Draft 2026 WQMP at its meeting on August 27, 2026. Pending adoption by NCTCOG's Executive Board, the Final 2026 Update to the North Central Texas WQMP will be submitted to The Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ). TCEQ then incorporates the annual North Central Texas WQMP Update into its statewide water quality planning efforts.
This project was prepared in cooperation with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
