Call for Applications from North Central Texas Cities for Developing City-wide Greenhouse Gas Inventories

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is currently accepting applications from cities in the North Central Texas 12-county Metropolitan Planning Area* to participate in a regional cohort to produce city-wide greenhouse gas emission (GHG) inventories. In collaboration with and through guidance from the Regional Integration of Sustainability Efforts (RISE) Coalition member governments, NCTCOG has partnered with the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) to provide 20 cities in the region access to ICLEI's ClearPath software to produce their own city-wide GHG inventory.

This opportunity is offered at no-cost for participating cities. This is possible due to a generous contribution from Burlington-Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad, that provided $25,000 to support development of a regional greenhouse gas emissions inventory and local initiatives to evaluate greenhouse gas emissions in North Central Texas. Staff time to participate in trainings, collect city data, and coordinate with NCTCOG and ICLEI throughout the process will be required, but the value of this opportunity is approximately $7,000 per participating city. This is based on the average membership in ICLEI, which is a requirement to have access to the ClearPath Software and technical assistance.

Call for Application Details
The Call for Applications from cities opens March 1 and closes April 16, 2021. Cities interested in submitting an application need to be a current NCTCOG member, commit to attendance of ICLEI and cohort trainings/meeting/check-ins and collaborate with NCTCOG to provide necessary data inputs. The application can be found here: North Central Texas Council of Governments - Local and Regional Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory.

March 24 NCTCOG Regional ICLEI Cohort Webinar
NCTCOG will be providing cities an opportunity to ask questions about the cohort, greenhouse gas inventories, and provide a demonstration of the ICLEI ClearPath Software during a March 24, 2021, 11:00 - 12:00 p.m. webinar. RSVP is requested. If your city may be interested in applying to this cohort, this demonstration and discussion would be helpful in determining the level of commitment and participation requirements. The webinar will cover the following topics:
- The requirements to submit an application to the cohort
- Support provided by NCTCOG
- Estimated timeline associated with the cohort
- Complementary efforts associated with the development of a regional greenhouse inventory
- Q&A and discussion time

Efforts to quantify GHG emissions in North Central Texas are a result of requests NCTCOG received from member governments for assistance in quantifying emission profiles for the region and local municipalities. These efforts are guided by the Regional Integration of Sustainability Efforts (RISE) Coalition member governments.

Visit the Call for Application and Project website to find more information about the Regional GHG Inventory, and RSVP for the upcoming webinar.

*Metropolitan Planning Area counties are: Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise
